I visited Tiger Leaping Gorge in Oct 2023 as a solo traveller and hired Rosey as my hiking guide. Before the trip I wasn’t sure if I actually needed a guide, but in hindsight, I’m so glad I hired her. Rosey is a local to Tiger Leaping Gorge and has lived there all her life. Her knowledge of the area is first rate, and she told me everything about the area including its history, its geography, and even the plants and animals we encountered along the way. This makes the hike both a fun and fascinating experience. What’s more, her English is excellent and she always has a cheerful disposition. Rosey knows all of the hiking routes like the back of her hand, so there is absolutely no danger of getting lost, even in an area this big. This was crucial for me, as my sense of direction is terrible and without her there’s no way I would have found the right paths. She can also advise on where to stay, where to eat, and anything else you need. If you’re planning a trip to Tiger Leaping Gorge or anywhere else in Yunnan, I would definitely consider hiring Rosey as a guide. Went on a hike with Rosey and it was the best trip ever. Rosey is very kind, friendly and very, very helpful. She knows so much about Lijiang, Tiger Loop, Shangri-La and had many nice stories to share. She cares a lot about her customers and is very helpful to solve problems (my phone smashed in the wilderness). She has a bright personality and smiles a lot. It's a good feeling to hang around with her and you always feel welcome as a friend. She's a very good driver and I always felt safe. And she likes to hear stories from abroad to learn more about other cultures too. If you wanna know more about local life in Yunnan, you should hang around with her, you'll have a good time. Rosey helped to arrange a driver to take our backpacks to Tina’s GH. She also arranged for the driver to drop us off at Naxi Guest house (the start of TLG). She updated us daily to let us know if TLG was open or closed (due to heavy rainfall). On the trail we messaged her multiple times and each time she answered back quickly and promptly. Rosey was a wonderful tour guide who greatly improved my experience in and around Lijiang. She knows the trails around Tiger Leaping Gorge quite well, and I particularly enjoyed the hike she took me on beginning from her father's hostel and going down into the middle gorge. She was extremely prompt in answering emails and WeChat questions about other aspects of my trip, giving me suggestions on good local restaurants and other cool places I could check out on my own.
