About Me

Hey there, Welcome!

I'm Muluken Girma, hailing from the beautiful Addis Ababa. Having successfully worked my way as a tour operator and tour guide for nearly two decades in all of Ethiopia's fascinating destinations, I think you'll find my expertise valuable.

I can provide group and individual tours, arrange car rentals, and offer exceptional tour guidance in Addis Ababa/Ethiopia.

My educational path started quite differently, though! After completing my primary and secondary schooling, I attended Mekelle University to study Accounting, earning my diploma in July 2001. However, I soon realized that crunching numbers wasn't quite my thing. So, I took a leap of faith and decided to study Tourism.

Earning my diploma at the Catering and Tourism Training Institute, I focused on Tour Operation Management for two years. With great pride, I graduated with a 'Distinctions' ranking in March 2004. I then applied my newly acquired knowledge and skills at two renowned tour companies in Addis Ababa, working full-time as a tour operator and guide until August 2009.

Since then, I've been engaging my talents as a professional freelance guide for various companies, offering insightful tour guidance in English. I look forward to sharing the wealth of my experiences with you!

I'm incredibly enthusiastic about planning and leading tours. It's really a way of life for me, not just a means of earning an income. I'm confident that I'm the ideal guide for your Addis Ababa tour for several reasons:

We much appreciated our day trip with Muluken to discover some of the history of Ethiopia. The church cut out of the rock was quite extraordinary! And the walk in the market plus the visit to the villager's home gave us a real sense of what it's like to live in an Ethiopian village....read more

And the walk in the market plus the visit to the villager's home gave us a real sense of what it's like to live in an Ethiopian village. I suspect Muluken knew more than the local guide at the site of the stela at Tiya, or maybe her command of English was not as good as his If Ethiopia is serious about developing tourism then the roads need to be improved and some provision made for natural breaks. I just finished a great 7-day trip with Muluken Girma through northern Ethiopia, in mid October 2017. We traveled to: Bahir Dar, Gondar, Simien Mountains NP, Axum, Lalibela and Addis Ababa. Ethiopia is an amazingly beautiful place; the people are the friendliest you will find. Make the trip and you will not be disappointed. I will refrain from making this a review of Ethiopia its cities/sites, and focus on a review of Muluken as my guide on this trip. I don’t think my trip and time with Muluken could have gone any smoother. All of our communication prior to the trip was detailed and timely. All transportation was safe, comfortable and clean. The drivers Muluken hired for us were all friendly to travel with and talk to, some of these drivers we send multiple days with. This also included a boat in Bahir Dar. The lodging that Muluken had recommended or provided in places I could not book on-line, were all good places. Some were great places, like Bahir Dar , Simien Mountains NP & Lalibela. Muluken provided great opportunities to talk with and interact with locals throughout the trip, stopping on the roadside to visit with families, farmers or walking through busy local markets, and many others. These were some of my favorite experiences. Muluken was always providing me with great information about the people and places we were experiencing as well as Ethiopian history and culture. His knowledge is one of his most impressive skills. Muluken also provided great local guides at some of the specific sites for even more detailed information; all of these were good experiences. I always felt safe with Muluken and that he was always looking out for us and looking for unique opportunities to experience Ethiopia. Muluken is a clean, organized and thoughtful man. I could continue with praise but I think you get the point. If you have the opportunity to travel with Muluken you will not be disappointed. Read less
