Nantong (南通 Nántōng, former names: Nan-t’ung, Nantung, Tungzhou, or Tungchow) is a prefecture-level city in Jiangsu province. The city is located on the northern bank of the Changjiang (Yangtze River) near the river mouth. Shanghai is just to the south across the river, and the East China Sea begins to the east.
