Dazhao Temple, 'Wuliang Si (Infinite Temple)' in Chinese, is the oldest building and the largest temple in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. Locally, people usually refer to it as the Silver Buddha Temple (Yinfo Si) for it is here that there is a rare silver statue of Sakyamuni that measures 2.5-meter-high (8.2-foot-high).
The construction of the temple was completed in 1580 during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and it is therefore the oldest Lamaist Buddhist temple in Inner Mongolia. There was a major reconstruction in 1640 although much of the original architectural style was retained.
Dazhao Temple owns its fame to a visit by the third Tibetan Dalai Lama in 1586, when he came to dedicate the Silver Buddha statue. As a consequence Hohhot became a religious center for people from all over Mongolia who came to worship. Another notable event in the temple's long history was a visit by Emperor Kangxi during the early part of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
The temple is now a well-known tourist attraction because of the impressive buildings, splendid statues, delicate frescos, musical instruments and fine collection of Buddhist scriptures. Of its abundant religious relics perhaps the most notable are the 'Three Marvelous Treasures', a title given to the Silver Buddha, the carved dragons on the huge golden pillars on either side of the statue and the murals commemorating the Emperor's visit.
Except for the main hall, the existing buildings within the temple complex are nearly all in the Han style. The main hall is a lamasery combining both Tibetan and Han styles of architecture. It has three parts. The front part is a two-story hall with an empty pavilion in the first floor; Jing Tang (the hall for chanting) and Fo Tang (the hall for worshiping Buddha) are central and rear sections. The perfectly preserved Silver Buddha lies in Fo Tang as it has for some four hundred years. In the splendid and solemn front of the hall, there is a pair of iron lions with their heads held high.
How to get there : Bus Route: take bus no. 6, 38, 42, 58 or 59 and get off at Dazhao Station.

The Mausoleum of Genghis Khan (成吉思汗陵) is a temple devoted to the worship of Genghis Khan. It is located along a river in Kandehuo Enclosure, Xinjie Town, Ejen Khoruu Banner, Ordos Prefecture-Level City (formerly Yeke Juu league), Inner Mongolia, People’s Republic of China. Genghis Khan worship is a religion popular among Mongolians, with ties to traditional Mongolian shamanism. There are other temples of this worship culture in Inner Mongolia and Northern China. The mausoleum is a cenotaph, where the coffin contains no body but only headdresses and accessories, because the actual Tomb of Genghis Khan has never been discovered. It was built between 1954 and 1956 by the government of the PRC in the traditional Mongol style. The mausoleum is located in the town of Ejin Horo Qi, 115 kilometers (71 mi) north of Yulin, and 55 kilometers (34 mi) south of Dongsheng.

Hulunbuir or Hūlúnbèi’ěr (呼伦贝尔市) is a region that is governed as a prefecture-level city in northeastern Inner Mongolia, in China. Its administrative center is located at Hailar District, its largest urban area. Major scenic features are the high steppes of the Hulun Buir grasslands, the Hulun and Buir lakes (the latter partially in Mongolia), and the Khingan range. Hulun Buir borders Russia to the north and west, Mongolia to the south and west, Heilongjiang province to the east and Hinggan League to the direct south. Hulunbuir is a linguistically diverse area: next to Mandarin Chinese, Mongolian dialects such as Khorchin and Buryat, the Mongolic language Dagur and some Tungusic languages are spoken there.

Hohhot is the capital of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, which borders both the Republic of Mongolia and Russia in the northeast and internally, Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces. The long and convoluted histories of Inner Mongolia combined with its astonishing natural beauty and blend of minorities, entice visitors from around the globe China Flights are currently offering a number of specials to this northern city.
The population of Inner Mongolia is around 24 million people, a large percentage of which include minorities from a number of ethnic groups including, Mongolian, Oroqen, Daur, Ewenki, Hui, and Manchu. Inner Mongolia is the third largest land area in China, with its sprawling grasslands and forests to the east and the dry windy deserts to the west of the province, China Tours have a variety of tours available to explore the natural beauty which will enthrall even the most blasé visitor.
The coexistence of flora and fauna throughout the province together with the boundless rolling stretches’ of land and wide blue sky, converts all who visit into obsessive paparazzo’s in pursuit of the perfect ‘shot’. The extensive grasslands in Inner Mongolia such as Xilamuren, Gegentala and Huitengxile appear incomprehensible to the average visitor, as the land stretches’ further than the eye can see; the sky and the land seem to merge as one on the horizon. The best time of year to visit Inner Mongolia is during the Naadam Festival (11-13 July 2012), when nomads gather to compete in a variety of games such as horse racing, archery and wrestling. The convergence of families and friends during the festival generates an atmosphere of frivolity, which is filled with merriment, singing and dancing. Other attractions include the Badain Jaran Desert, Tengger Desert and the Kubuqi Desert in western Inner Mongolia, the best time of the year for temperate climates is from mid-August to the end of September. Other attractions include the Mausoleum of Genghis Kahn which is185km south of Baotou, which contains a number of items believed to have once belonged to.
However if you do visit in late January and early February you will encounter the mass migration of families returning home for spring festival. As most tourists head south to the more temperate climates, the lack of tourists heading north west during this season will generate the impression of soul adrift in the limitless stretches of barren snow covered countryside and icy blue sky.
The experience is hard to surpass! To explore the north without the usual horde of tourists, to feel the icy winds as they bluster across the hills, while watching the Mongolian ponies as they roam free for the winter is indescribable. While the locals stay warm in their yurts, you will feel like the only person alive in the silent winter wonderland. For more information please visit China Travel for tour dates and options if you would like to visit one of China’s most beautiful provinces!
